Feeding our kittens the right amount?

Postby brockin_bengal on Mon Jul 16, 2012 7:50 pm

Hi guys,

We are currently feeding Paz & Enoch (7 weeks & 9 weeks) the following:

Pets at Home Advanced Nutrition Adult Chicken - Approx. 25g each per day
Pets at Home Advanced Nutrition Kitten Chicken - Approx. 5g each per day

We are feeding them the adult version because this is what the breeder had them on.
We've only had them 4 days so we're mixing in a little of the kitten type in the hope of putting them onto that.
They are doing well on it and their poo seems to be of a good consistancy (did I really just type that?).

It seems to have a pretty decent meat content and meat is first on the list of ingredients - not a filler material.

Eventually I plan on feeding them some applaws wet food mixed with a bit of high quality dry.

My questions are:

1. Is this a good food for them at the moment?
2. I currently put down 1 bowl between the 2 of them - so about 60g of food in 1 bowl. Is this ok?
(They are happy sharing and let each other eat without problems - they also appear to eat at the same time, so both are getting roughly the same amount).
3. I leave the food down all day and I reckon (in the day that I was in the same room all day) they probably ate about 7 times. Should I be leaving the dry food out all the time and let them eat when they want or should I take it away between meals?

I don't want them to get fat and lethargic! Any advice is apprecitated!
Thanks, Daz.
bye bye

Hi Daz
I feed my 2 Bozita it has a really high meat content and non filler rubbish (about a quarter of a carton each twice a day) and we always have a large bowl of Royal Canin Indoor 27 and Fit 32 (mixed in together) down. For a treat they get raw meat or day old chicks. All of this was suggested by the breeder who also said bengals can have a funny tum if the eat low meat content full of wheat or other fillers.

My bengals will regulate what they eat themselves and will eat only when they are hungry and will make it very obvious when the want feeding smille

I have had Lottie since she was a kitten and we did have a kitten food but she has always prefered the adult Bozita food so we used to mash it up a bit and add a little water to make it easier for her

Hope this helps, Shell

I feed my boys both dry and moist (canned) food.
I leave dry out all the time-- I use Evo-- I've tried others but my boys seem to like that one the best.
Canned-- they get fed 2-3 maybe even 4 times a day-- just a tablespoon or so mixed with water to make a soup.
I prefer grain-free-- or at least corn and wheat-free. I'm not sure what you have in your area so I'm not much help there.
