Was Lynkin, Now Coot, Turk and Hank!

Postby eswepe on Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:21 pm

Well, the big show is tomorrow!!! We had to pull Lynkin out because his eye, while better, just isn't where it should be. :-( Maybe next time...

Not sure if I shared this, but I had entered Coot so he could keep Lynkin company. With Lynkin out of the show, that left Coot on his own. Didn't seem fair... So I called about substituting either Hank or Turk for Lynkin's spot. I have some reservations about both and explained them to the show's entry clerk (Not sure how Hank will do since he's not a big fan of being held. Turk will be in the household pet division, so it shouldn't matter, but his leg is still pretty bald). Well, they want us to bring both! So, now we have everyone BUT Lynkin entered into the show. I think we're probably nuts! Anyway, I thought I'd set up this thread so I can update you all on how they're doing.

We gave them all their pre-show bath last night. I administered them in what I thougth would be a progressively hard order. You know, start with the easy guy first, develop a good technique and then tackle the tough guy? Well, turns out I got the order exactly backward. I started with Turk. He loves water and is pretty laid back, doesn't mind being handled, etc. Well, we were pretty much deaf by the time we were done. He meowed like crazy and kept clawing to get out of the sink. He did look all cute and spiky when we were done though. Coot was about as I had expected him to be - a little meow here and there, but pretty cooperative. His fur is much thicker than the others, though, so his bath took twice as long. Then, we mustered up the courage to tackle Hank. Wait for it...not a peep! He was sooooo cooperative. Just looked up at me and let me do my thing. I actually think part of him enjoyed it. Go figure! Anyway, I'm sort of hoping he has a similar reaction at the show tomorrow. I'm nervous he's going to try to bolt, but maybe he'll surprise me!

Has anyone washed a cat before? We gave Lynkin his bath and he's super soft and fluffy. I think Coot looks better too. Hank and Turk, I'm not so sure - I sort of think they were softer before. Am I crazy? Maybe they just need a good brush??? Shows are a lot of work!!!

Will you still be there on Sunday or just Saturday? I hope Sunday since that's the only day we can come. Either way, good luck to all the boys and you!

Thanks, guys! We will be back there tomorrow - minus Hank. Hank is NOT a show kitty. Hank won best in color and division in all of his rings...but he's the only alter Bengal in the show. ;-) He took his first couple of rings okay, but after lunch he started getting ticked off. He's back to his lovable self now, but devil kitty came out for a little bit. We decided we're not going to put him through another day of that - I can imagine it would get any better - so we'll be back tomorrow with just Coot and Turk. Too bad Lynk couldn't go - he'd have been good.

The other two are fine with it all and were much better toward the end of the show today. Coot finaled in one ring, so that was cool. That officially makes him the only Bengal in the show to have finaled so far! They're not big Bengal lovers in this show - lame!

Can anyone explain to me what the point of the second day? So, all the judges have already seen them - won't the results essentially be the same? Am I missing something? Also, what's the difference between the all breed ring and the specialty ring? Help!

Anyway, I'm super sleepy - pictures tomorrow...

It was great to meet you, your husband and the boys. It was very neat to see all the bengals and they were all so beautiful! It was so nice to be able to hold some but made me even more excited to hold mine. 20 days to go!!

It was nice to meet you too!

Turk and Coot did much better today. They were much more relaxed and it really helped their personalities come through. Coot had 3 finals today! Turk finaled in his last ring (took 2nd). I'm still trying to figure out all of this show stuff, but it was fun! It was funny - the photographyer who took pictures of our boys was a vendor at the show and had a HUGE picture of them, so a lot of people recognized them. I'll post some of my own pics in a minute...

I think so... It was all a learning process this time and I really didn't know what to expect from the cats. So, I was a little nervous and frazzled. I think the next show would be more fun. It would also have been nice to have had some help, so I could have had time to watch some of the other rings - too much going on. This show was also really loud (lots and lots of barking dogs). I think a regular show would be better. We'll see. I think I'm going to register them in ACFA too - they have a lot of shows here. TICA is forming a MN club now, but so far they just have the one show a year, which is run by the Ohio club.

Great pictures Renee!!! coolpics

Its so much fun to see a friend's cats being shown! I wish I could have seen it in person!

Turk and Cooter look completely relaxed and comfortable. That is such a relief! I bet you will show them again, huh?

They were in HHP together right?
Could you have shown them as Bengal Alters because they are full Bengals but altered?? winkiss

That picture of Matt is funny! Tell him to quit chewing cords or you will really put him in the cage with the cats.

Love the show curtains--you did a wonderful job--the whole thing---all of it--the bench, the cats with the judges etc makes it seem like you've been showing forever.

Next time get some pictures of YOU with the cats and the ribbons!! caticon

I finally found the link to an explanation of a Tica cat show...better late than never.

http://vanadis.cnc.net/NewExh2.htm

All this is inspiring me. Maybe I could show Ace of Sapphire? Shine isn't eligible because she is an EG. And picture Elvis at a show! The judges couldn't pick him up....I couldn't pick him up!

Aw, thanks Julie! I will definitely be showing them again. I'd like to see how Turk would do with all his leg fur. I really think that held him back this time. They don't really tell you how the cats are scored, though, so I don't know. Julie, do you know if there is a way to find out how each judge scored them? They get an actual number score, right? I thought that'd be posted somewhere, but it doesn't look like it. Am I missing something?

Turk and Coot were in the HHP division. I can't show them as Bengal Alters because they're not papered. Coot was a rescue and his original owner didn't mind leaving him in shelter, but couldn't be bothered to leave his papers. Turk's breeder never gave them to me (you know that story ). I think Coot's fur would really keep him from doing well as an Alter anyway. He has a great head, but his fur is just too ticked. Turk might be okay - hard to say (one person in the HHP even asked why he wasn't being shown as an Alter - she didn't see his leg...). Regardless, I'm crabby I don't have his papers. Grr!

I'm sort of tempted to enter Hank in one more show - one where there aren't dogs and so many other things going on. He was all growling and hissing - he's never like that, not even at the vet! I wonder if it was a one-off kind of thing or if he really hated it that much. Maybe I can find a 1-day show somewhere...

You should totally show Ace and Sapphire! I bet you'd love it! You could even show Elvis. There was a HUGE tabby girl competing against Turk and Coot. She put Elvis to shame size-wise. Looked like a fluffy woodtick. rofl She was really beautiful, but was obviously a serious eater - she even kept trying to eat the decorations everytime the judges took her out. I'm just sayin', Elvis might surprise you! I'm actually surprised you haven't shown - you go to so many shows and have way more experience than I do! Plus, you could enter Sapphire as a kitten. That would be fun and she'd get used to showing at an early age!

I do have pics of me with the cats, but I'm not posting them! neener
